The number
What is the Omega-3 Index?
It is the percentage of your red blood cell membranes made up of EPA and DHA, the two long-chain omega-3 fats. The laboratory reports it as a single figure. Eight per cent and above is the zone it calls desirable; below four per cent is the zone it calls undesirable.
Is that the same as the "omega-6 to omega-3 ratio"?
No, and the two get mixed up constantly. The ratio is a different measurement expressed as something like 15:1. The Index is a percentage. A number like 14:1 is a ratio, never an Index. We use the Index, because it is the one the research is built on.
Why does it take months to change?
Because it is a structural number, not a blood level. Red blood cells turn over across roughly four months, so the Index moves at the speed your body rebuilds them. That is the entire reason the second test waits — testing again after three weeks would tell you nothing you could act on.
The test
How does it work?
A finger-prick onto a card, dried, sealed in the envelope provided and posted. No clinic, no appointment, no fasting.
Who analyses it?
OmegaQuant, a CLIA-certified laboratory. Samples are processed in the UK.
How long do results take?
About 10 to 20 days from posting. Your result comes back by email. There is no app — if you see one mentioned anywhere on this site, tell us and we will remove it.
Does it hurt?
About as much as you would expect from a lancet. Less than a blood draw, and it is over in a second.
The oils
How much do I take?
5 ml a day, with a meal. A 300 ml bottle is 60 servings, so about two months.
Fish oil or algae oil — which?
They deliver the same two fats, EPA and DHA, and your blood cannot tell them apart. The fish oil carries 1300 mg per 5 ml serving; the algae oil carries 1100 mg. Take the algae oil if you avoid fish for any reason. Otherwise take whichever you prefer.
Why with food?
Fat is absorbed better alongside a meal that contains fat. It is that simple.
Can I take it with my medication?
Ask your doctor or pharmacist. We are not qualified to answer that and will not pretend otherwise — particularly if you take anticoagulants, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Will it fix how I feel?
We do not know, and neither does anyone who tells you otherwise without measuring you first. What we can tell you is what the authorised claims say, and those are printed on every product page with the intake condition attached. Anything beyond that would be us making it up.
Buying
Is there a subscription?
No. One price, paid once. No minimum term, no auto-renewal, and no account you have to phone up to cancel. If you want another bottle, you buy another bottle.
Why don't you show certification badges?
Because we cannot yet hand you the certificate number that goes with any of them. Badges are easy to paste onto a page; the paperwork behind them is the part that matters. When we have verified which certifications apply to our products, they will appear on the quality page with their references. Until then that page is honestly blank.
What does shipping cost?
It depends where you are, and the full cost is shown at checkout before you pay. Nothing is added afterwards. Free shipping applies above the threshold shown at checkout.
Can I return it?
If the seal is intact, yes — 14 days, no reason needed. Once a bottle or a test kit has been opened we cannot take it back, because sealed health and hygiene goods are excluded from the right of withdrawal once unsealed. If anything arrives damaged, wrong or out of date, that is a different matter entirely: photograph it, tell us within 48 hours, and we will replace or refund it in full.
Who am I actually buying from?
LIF3. We are not a reseller of somebody else's line — the oils and tests are ours, made to our specification. The Weider and Victory Endurance products we stock are clearly labelled as theirs, and we say on the Weider page exactly which parts of their range we deliberately do not sell.
